Arcadian Forest Story

Arcadian Early Learning Center is located at 5650 Club Road in Duncan

In 2007, the rock bluff that Arcadian sits on went through a massive renovation when 11 mature trees were cut down from the land below Arcadian so that a brand new 16-space infant toddler center could be built.

In return for cutting down the trees, Arcadian promised the City of Duncan, who leases the land to our non-profit society, that we would plant a new young forest within five years. In 2011, some trees and shrubs were donated by children attending the center. Other trees were gifted to the center from the staff’s union BCGEU.

In 2012, Arcadian joined with the First Annual Trees for Children, Earth Day celebration initiated by the Shawnigan Lake Montessori preschool. All of our 60 children chose a baby tree to plant.

Some of the trees were planted at their own homes. Some of the trees (Yellow Cedars) were planted in the preschool playground. And some of the trees (Western Red Cedars) were planted in our new Arcadian Children’s Forest.
